Canada is not square

Canada. The legal drinking age (in most places, 19), and some of the obsessions with sports, rather than the arts can make it seem like an uncultured place. Nevertheless I know that growing up in Slovakia and then moving to Canada at the age of 12 was the best decision my parents ever made. Canada, specifically Vancouver, BC has made me who I am today. Some of the liberties that are available in Europe, aren't necessarily the same there, yet a lot of the things that Canada has to offer are irreplaceable. For me, specifically the issue of space, is unbeatable. Wild ocean, nature, uninhabited land, freedom. Being able to go to the beach and be alone, save for a blue heron searching for food. Walking the seawall in downtown and still have plenty of space on the sidewalk. Flying over the Rocky Mountains, awestruck by the endless space, the sheer, massive vastness of the land. I feel free as a person when I am in Europe. I feel free as a human when I am in Canada.
